As a therapist, I am passionate about partnering with my clients to find hope and healing, even in the darkest of situations. I see the counseling process as a great privilege, and I enjoy working with individuals and couples in their journey to greater health and wholeness.
I emphasize a non-judgmental and compassionate approach and seek to create a warm and inviting space for all clients. I believe all people are created with inherent dignity, worth, and value, and I seek to demonstrate this in my work with individuals and couples. I value working with clients from a diversity of backgrounds, whether cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, or non-religious, and consider it an honor to be invited into my clients' stories. I am a Christian, and enjoy integrating faith and theology into the counseling process (where desired by a client), but sharing my faith (or having one at all) is not a requirement to work with me.
With individuals, I specialize in addressing painful past experiences that recurrently impact our present through EMDR, a treatment method that has been clinically shown to reduce physical and emotional distress. I currently also offer EMDR Intensives, which allow for greater efficiency through the diagnostic and processing components of EMDR, allowing clients to often find insight and relief sooner. My hope is that at the end of the counseling process, individuals feel seen and known, and leave feeling less reactive and more in control of their lives.
With couples, I emphasize a highly collaborative approach that requires a willingness to roll your sleeves up. I believe marriage and relationships are meant for more than just “good enough.” Rather than playing “referee,” I seek to empower couples towards health and long-term stability and satisfaction by serving as both a “coach” and “cheerleader” for the relationship. Because I know time and finances are precious resources, I utilize the Gottman Method for couples counseling, a method developed from decades of research and empirically shown to be effective. The process begins with a thorough diagnostic system to develop a highly detailed “map” of the relationship’s current areas of strengths and vulnerabilities. This map then serves as a guide for the therapy process to systematically address areas of concern, as well as enhance areas of strengths. My hope is that couples leave the process feeling excited for the future, and better equipped for handling future challenges together.
I value the courage it takes to reach out and take the next step, and honor the process of working towards greater health and wholeness. Contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to set up a complimentary phone consultation.
Personal Interests
I am a lover of metaphors, quilting, and enjoy most anything that brings people together to enjoy the present moment. My husband and I enjoy learning together, being outdoors, and finding opportunities to explore foods of many cultures. We are passionate about the local church, and believe that being a part of the family of God is a life-changing experience.
